MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) FOUND ON PREMISES. •Ernest Albert Stevens and Margaret M'Neill, who in the small hours of Saturday morning were found without lawful excuse on property in Majoribanks Street, were convicted of being rogues and vagabonds. There were' four previous, convictions against the female accused, and a. long list for various offences against Stevens. Each accused was sentenced to one year's imprisonment. ■

Evidenco /tendered for the prosecution was to the effort that accused was seen to place his hand in Glover's pocket and abstract money while tho latter was getting into a cab at the corner of Lanibton Quay and Fcatljerstoii Street. M'Alear did not givo evidence or call any witnesses. There were a number of previous convictions against him, and ho was sentenced to one mouth's imprisonment. . OTHER CASES. Arthur Charles Wheeler was charged with wilfully damaging a pane of glass value £15, tho property of Samuel Gilmer. Accused pleaded guilty. SubInspector Norwood stated that the window was a large embossed pauo in .the front of the Royal Oak Hotel, and "accused, after threatening to smashjMt, liad wilfully thrown' a large stone through it. In order that inquiries .might bo made concerning Wheeler, he was remanded till November 1 for sentence. Alfred Louis bibson pleaded, guilty to a charge of using, improper language iu North Street. There were three previous convictions against liim, and he was sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment. . James M'Michael, charged with drunkenness, was deemed to be a habitual inebriate, and was sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment, _ a prohibition' order to. issue. against him for twelve months. One first offending inebriate was fined 55., iu default 24 hours' imprisonment.
