The new Chinese Consul-General, interviewed here, said misunderstandings between Australia and China had been due to ignorance of each other. Antiforeignism in China was not more rampant than ;mti-foroignism in Western lands. Tho changes which were rapidly proceeding .in China were simply phenomenal, sShe was adapting herself to tho life of tho modern world fast, and was progressing in social evolution. The Government, ho added, was seriously determined to provide for tho defence of the Empire. " '
