" .A; ballot, was conducted yesterday at the District Lands- Office, for three, sections' in- the Makaretu Village Settle-ment,-.'on the Mangahao River, near Pahiatua. The land was offered under the renewable leaso system (66 years). Seventy-one applicants for. tho sections were examined T)y; the Wellington Land Board, and of their numberforty-two were; passed as eligible. At the..ballot, Section .136, for which' there wero nine approved applicants, fell to • Jlr. W. S. Hirst. , For Section 137 there were 16 applicants of whom Mr. W. 8.-Croad" wasi successful. ' Of 17 applicants Mr. A.'.'G.:-Mitchell was* successful in obtaining Section 133. - .
