IN CHAMBERS.
A MISSINC DEBTOR. HIS BROTHER EXAMINED. The disappearance of Jack Vinegard (or Vinegrad), otherwise known as Isaac Vinegard (or Vinegrad), who carried on business as a mercer in Manners Street, was a subject of investigation before tho Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) in Chambers yesterday. The action, which was the first of the kind heard in Wellington, camo forward on an application under tho Bankruptcy Act, Section 38, which provides that before a summons for adjudication is disposed of, the Court may summon for examination any person who lias been stated on affidavit to be capable of giving information concerning any act of bankruptcy alleged to have been committed by a debtor.
Abraham Vinegard was accordingly summoned to give evidence as to the whereabouts of his brother Jack, and the alleged act of bankruptcy, namely, that with intent to defraud his creditors, Jack Vinegard departed from his dwellinghouse, and otherwise absented himself within the last threo months. The witness, however, denied all knowledge of the whereabouts of his brother, who, he said, had informed him on September.-27 last that lie intended to go to Rotorua. It was shown to the Court that Jack Vinegard owed'£Boo on the business which the witness had purchased from, him for . £200. Mr. G.. Toogood appeared for - the petitioning creditors, and Mr. A. H.
