YACHTING.

[Bx Mainsheet.]

Tho Boat Harbour is onco again filling up with yachts find launches, and it seems as. though yachtsmen will havo to exercise a-little care when they are leaving or coming to their moorings. In the- course of a lew weeks, however, the dredge will bo able to depart from the Boat Harbour, having finished its work. ■Sunday laut was too calm for tho yachtsmen to enjoy a sail. A light breeze in tho morning enabled the yachts to get outside of tho Boat Harbour, but at midday they wero still drifting .about with the tide. In the afternoon, a light

"northerly" sprang up, and the yachts then began to sail away gaily. The afternoon was spent in cruising around the harbour, the Muritai going to Seatoun. Fleet Jottings Ji'ivo yachts were launched between Saturday and Sunday last, they being llaliaki, Kawene, Ethel, lolanthe, and Kona.

During tlio winter months the Ethel has had her mast shortened, and has been turned into a yawl.

Tho painting of.. Mahaki white has made a decided improvement in her appearance. It is understood that her owners have acquired a new set of sails. Kona is looking quito a new yacht, after' her overhaul., Messrs. H. Barrett and J. Kelley have been very., thorough in their overhauling of their yacht lolanthe. Although it was not needed, she has had the paint' burnt off, and will no doubt "shako things up" this season in the secondclass races. ■ . ■■

The yawl Eawene has had a good overhauling, and is now looking spic and span. Mr. H. Highett has launched his new scow, and was out for a spin on Sunday. Although the trial was successful, it could be seen that the little boat would probably be in some trouble in a "blow." A New Cup,

The surplus from the winding-up of the Thorndon Dinghy Club has purcnased a very handsome silver cup for competition amongst tho small sailing fleet of Port Nicholson. Tho cup, which is on view in the' Union Clothing Company's window, was made by Messrs. Walker and Hall. English Yachting. 1 . The, King of Spain was on: board Sir Thomas Lipton's Shamrock, wlion she beat the White Heather in the race lor the Commodore's Cup at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club's Kegatta at Rydo last month. Undeterred by the accident on the previous Saturday, when the topmast was carried . away during a race off Cowes, and he himself had a narrow escape, the young Monarch again boarded the Shamrock. As the.yachts crossed the line, King Alfonso, himself a keen yachtsman—he steered his own boat to victory in several races at the recent regatta nt Biarritz—could be seen .011 deck liot the least interested figure among those working the yacht. Almost immediately the Shamrock, with her wonderful spread of'canvas, forged ahead, and when tho first round was finished shortly before 3 p.m., was several ahead of White Heather. At this stage the committee, as the wind was very light, decided to stop the race, Shamrock being declared tin; winner. His Majesty King George . .V has succeeded his;late, .father as Admiral of t.he Royal Yacht Squadron.
