Another of., the pioneer settlers of the district, Mr.' James Stewart,, .passed away suddenly between 3 and 4 o'clock yesterday morning at Otaihanga. Deceased, who was one of the sturdy class of settlers, was nearly 80 years of. age. He took up residence in the district some , years ago. , '

■ FHILDINC. • , Farmers in the Sandon district report that the promise this season is in favour of excellent crops; of rye seed. Mr. Short had made arrangements to purchase another draught mare and'foal, He has also sold three Hereford bulls to go to-the Argentine. .-

Mr. John Cameron, who is still conducting his four-year-old campaign against .the Chinese in New Zealand, is at present in Fcilding,-and may speak here.
