Boat Harbour Risks.' The Boat Harbour has been' made deeper inshore, and, ipso facto, it has been made more dangerous for children, who wander round. it and (pretty often) fall in. Cases have been reported when small children have had an involuntary bath, : but 'luckily, they havo been able, to "depth it," and have climbed out. But now it is a case of "deep wator,'' and children who "fall in" do so at ' some risk. A correspondent suggests. that if the Harbour Board could; see their way to put gates at the entrances " it would meot tho situation. ' - ■ A Boisterous Labour .Day. Although Labour Day : was Very boisterous and not the sort of day which yachtsmen like, the owners and crews of tho few yachts which were down, could not resist tho. temptation to spread canvas. Muritai and Nancy Stair got away and spent the day at Scorching Bay, and Mahina and Karaka did. some cruising round the harbour. The weather also prevented yachtsmen from putting the finishing touches., on their boats, and prevented some from launching their yachts. , A Friend .Indeed. ;' The crew of Ruihi deserve the thanks of yachtsmen for the way in which they assisted them during the winter months. The Ruihi has also done good work lately by towing the yachts from ;the slip, to the Boat Harbour. ! ' Mr. R.;Millman has practically finished his new yacht, which will probably -bedown in a' couple of weeks' time. The yacht -is 26ft. 6in. long; with Bft. 6in. beam, and.has tumble-home sides which make her a very roomy-craft. She is fitted with ' two bunks and two cabins, andis yawl'rigged. ' " '"•/ '.' ■ > ; The auxiliary yacht,'Ruihi, once owned by the late Mr. J. Otago Yacht Club. • ' Tho following is .tho annual report of tho Otago' Yacht and Motor 'Boat 'Club': The' season;lias been, a- very','busy, one.'in many-ways, and 'every undertaking was carried out to a'successful issue. Tho season's club, races, .taken together, -were somewhat -.disappointing, the , only - good race being, the first-class yaoht'race; which brought out a large_ number of starters. It - would be well this season if tho committee , took...in hand the, classifying" -of the boats; aid: if sufficient entries are ,not forthcoming at -the, beginning, of;;the - season, some of . the races could ,with , advaht-: ago-bo dropped but.., The committee cannot conclude their report: withoutexpressing- their 'gratitude to their late secretary, Mr. MTveegan, for the very- excellent: serrendered to tho club. The season commenced : .with a- balance, of 10s. 3d.,: and the.;balarice-sheet now submitted Shows' a ; credit balance- of lto. ,6(1. ,'after,- paying off all This''result' is very ;encouraging, and. the club are to be, congratulated on being in. such 'a sound position. With careful management for a few .seasons, the olub should 'soon be in a-most flourishing 'condition.
