HOSPITAL CONTRIBUTIONS.
- (By Telegraph—Press" Association.) ; . Christchurch, October 4. ' A curious position lias arisen with regard to - the contribution of 'the, Lyttel-. ton borough to the funds of the Hospital Board. The borough' was billed 1 for £489, the, .amount being calculated on a valuation : :of ' The Borough Council, however, "objects: It states that the correct'; valuation is'; £305,185, and : has requested-tho -Valuer-General to.inform the' Hospital Board to that .effect:. : , The. borough!s contribution on this ; basis would be £186. The board, however, declines to reduce' its demand, and says it'has;complied"with:the statutory. ' requirements in ascertaining - the valua 7 tions of contributing: districts!; The Lyttelton Borough Council will now make, a formal . protest .-to-, the Government, and request that an inquiry, be instituted to-settle its,assessment.' Later'.--v.;. In regard to the-dispute, between the : Hospital Board and. the Lyttelton Borough Council, it is explained that tho valuation supplied to'the board included the wharves,: dock, and other- property I not subject to borough rates. The] board's difficulty .is that ; if if'reduced Lyttelton's contributions it would involve increases :in the contributions of. other bodies, and a readjustment : of the scale generally. ,'
