..St. Peter's Churclv.was filled with a large congregation, and the.service took .the same ..form: as on previous ■ nights',. Hynins, prayers,.'. and .a/,. Bible-reading about the Woman of Sychnr opened the proceedings,'and-' then .followed an instruction, : on the --way .-in' .which God leads' us to, break away from bur sins— •that is.through 1 conviction,: The.Holy Ghost moves us to self-examination, and reveals a'man's true self. \Ve need.the light of the' Spirit, like tho X-rays, to see ourselves through and through. The Missioncr told -his hearers to examine themselves on. the First. Commandment; and they wouldn't get further without finding themselves shortcomers and sinners.: The sermon following was preachitd on tie subject of tho Samaritan woman., The address was a forcible end eloquent one.. The meeting ended •in an informal prayer meeting, open to any men' who cared to. pray.

The Anglican '.Mission commenced in Palmerstbn North on Saturday, the missionor being the Rev. T. Recs,. 'who is assisted by the ,Ecv. E. H. Shore, the former conducting the mission, at All Saints', the parish church, and the latter that at St. Peter's, Terrace End. ■

On Saturday night a service of welcome was; held in 'All Saints', both inissioners being ' present;. ' The service' 'was chiefly for communicants, but many others were present. On Sunday there.were celebrations.of the Holy-Communion at each church,.over 200 being present.. At .3.15 p.m. there was a service for men only in All. Saints', a large number being present. Mr. Rees took for. his subject,. "A Strong Man," not a man; strong physically, nor a • man mentally: strong, but a man strong in character. No.man could ■be truly strong in.character unless he was serving God, and serving, his- fellow-men by helping them, to. live up to.the. highest ideals. "In the evening both churches were absolutely about 1000 people attending the services. The congregations- joined, heartily in the-hymns,. and very'many, were visibly , impressed by- the. service. missioner .at All Saints' first: gavo an instruction'-.'■ on, "Conversion,"■', and preached a - very- fine sermon on the miracle,of the healing of blind Bartimaeus. " " '■ '■'.'.' .'.' : ' .-.' -.':',' •/■■' A striking feature, about the work: of each -missioner-is the absence of emotionalism, and .'the"•insistence,'.oil" prayer' rather than preaching as-the great power in the mission. TEILDING. : 'The Anglican .Mission opened here on Saturday, evening .with a-service of. reception' for the missioner (the. Kev.A. H. Colyile)../ There, was a good attendance and a most impressive service. The missioner 'is a fine manly. type of. man -ofcommanding presence and an excellent speaker. There; were:large congregations on: Sunday, at all'the services, especially.in the evening, ..when the. church was filled to. overflowing, tbe.'people sitting on the, chancel-steps and at the altar/rails. :The, aisles were'.'also' filled 'with extra seats and many had to stand, .while, others went away unable: to; find"accommodation'.. Jn spite of the overcrowding, the congregation was. most'reverent and-the earnest utterances: of the missioners were listened ;tb.;-:with rapt- attention. The spirit,,.of expectations,, which has. ;.bee'n steadily, growing; in. the 1 'parish for months, past,, has .been fully:, justified, and the,, general, verdict of,those, spoken to is that'a'better: man than Mr. Colvile' ■ could: not'. have been'found for/the mission .'work.' ■'■'.'■'.'.'' ■
