The Ashburton Trotting Club's spring meeting was commenced this afternoon under favourable auspices, although the wind was uncertain and _ gusty. Four bookmakers were licensed,; insido at ,£l2 12s. each, and two outsido at .£lO 10s., while £'£LGd 10s. was put through the totnlisator, os against .£1421 for the corresponding day of last year.
