A preliminary inquiry into tho circumstances concerning tho wreck of the ketch Felicity at the Heads on Sunday evenheld yesterday by the Collector of Customs. The evidence of the master, Captain Anderson, and Messrs. R. C. and B. H; Somerville was'taken. This was forwarded to the Marine Department w ho will consider, from the facts stated at the preliminary inquiry, whether a-fur-ther inquiry is necessary. '
.Sitting in Chambers yesterday,-Mr. Justice Chapman had before him a summons for directions to trustees in the estate of the late Thomas Hayward—as to carrying on . farming business and raising *JP ne rn' or ". er was made appointing Mr. 1.. F. Martin, solicitor, guardian of the infant, his Honour directed'the parties to submit a draft order and summons for the Court's approval. In the House.of Representatives yesterday Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P. for Wellington : South, gave. notice of his intenr?°? to ask the Minister for Agriculture "whether hia attention has beeii drawn ? n article in J the Journal of the New Zealand Department of Agriculture, dated August 15, 1910, p;p. 187. If so, does he endorse the advice l of the writer of the article, which instructs vine-growers in no-license districts how they may evade the spirit of the-law by-selling win-in no-license districts?"

To-day Mr. Justice Chapman .will Bit in the Supreme Court'to hear a motion for attachment of; the defendant for disobeying an order of the -■ Court in, the case of Hannah t. Nodine ; an application in regard - to-the estate of Isaac Lupton, deceased, late of Wavcrley; and a petition for reversal of. the decision of .the Registrar of Patents brought;, by Messrs.T, Bear and. A further demand for classes In home' nursing -has caused the Wellington Centre of the St. John Ambulance A'ssocia- 1 tion to arrange for a new ' series of classes, which will; begin- on Friday of next week. The first-aid classes 1 which Dr. Izard.is giving at Government House commenced yesterday, his Excellency the Governor being present.
' Statements made at a recent meeting of the S.P.C.A. that many dogs suffering from'mange and similar diseases are running about the . streets of " Wellington were submitted by a Dominion reporter on Monday to. Mr: J. Doyle, Chief Insmictor to ,the_ City_ Corporation. , They 'were met by him witli a .flat and unqualified denial. Stray dogs, 1 diseased: or citherwise, were extremely uncommon i)bont the streets, 'Mr. Doyle remarked, as anyone might satisfy himself by a little observation. The',registration system .was efficient, and hundreds of'..stray•' dogs .were destroyed every- .year; Last year 19H0 dogs were registered.. • This year the , total registered ' already exceeded -000. Last year 435 stray.:dogs were taken, in charge by Corporation .inspectors. Of this number: .117. were - reclaimed, an equal number sold, and the remainder ; were' destroyed. . -.
