(Beforv Messrs. W. Hildrcth ami J: B. Speed, J.P/s.) FO'C/R COCKLES FOR Makora Rapati pleaded guilty to u charge of assaulting Ernest Hunter on September 3. In defence, accused,, through an interpreter, stated that ho purchased- foul cockles from Hunter for sixpence. He gave a florin, but Hunter refused to give him the change and ran away. Accused ran after him and caught him by the shoulder. Hunter , then struck Makora Rapati and Makora Kapatii struck Hunter back. -Sub-Inspector Norwood said that, therewas probably a good deal of truth ■ iti what accused said, but when the police arrived on the sccno ho appeared to be tho aggressor. ' Their Worships ..convicted and. discharged Rapati with a caution not to take the law into his own hands when he', had a grievance. He was ordered to pay the interpreter's feo. ' ' '.-- ~ : ■ ",'•.'■• METHYLATED SPIRIT. ••■ Jas. Randall pleaded guilty to a chargv , ,of wilfully, damaging a pane of glass,, value 45., a pail, value 3s:, and a doorlock, value 2s. Gd., the property of the trustees of the Benevolent Institute. The evidence was to the effect that accused was.an inmate of the OMro Home,, and had given a lot.of trouble. One day last week he drank.a quantity of methylated- spirit, and then became unmanageable, and smashed the articles mentioned in the charge-sheet. Accused had a number of previous convictions against him, and it was mentioned that the authorities were unwilling to. take him back to the home. He was fined 205., and ordered to pay for' the damage;: in : default seven | days' imprisonment, '• OTHER.CASES. , ■!'■..•.
