THE LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS ACT.
Sir,—Mr. M'Cluggage, J.P., deserves tho tbanks of the■■ community for having, so kindly and so courteously confirmed, the statement recently made by the member for Stratford to. the effect that_ the Land for ■ Settlements Act; as administered, was decidedly in favour of, tho.rich as against, tho poor man, though it.was somewhat supererogatory for Mr.-. M'Cluggage to clench the argument put forward by. Mr. Hine by adding that "this class of land is bought: by the generally at a high figure, being as a rule close to. a township with factory, etc.,' and is not the class of land for persons without any capital."' Anyone who- has followed the workings of the' Land Purchaso Board at all knows the abbyo to bb a pretty accurate statement of the case. —I am, etc. '■ DISINTERESTED.'
