Wanganui, August 31. : Regarding the proposed new traffic bridge a lengthy opinion from the Wanganui • borough solicitor points out to the council that the river, being under the control of tho Harbour Board, the consent of. that body is necessary'before the Governor-in-Council can issue authority to construct the bridge. Tho same question of control also arises in respect of iho bridge itself when finished-, and it will require to be vested in the council before the latter can extend its tramways aoross it. The solicitor advises a ..special. Act to cover.; all these points, which, will be gone into at a special meeting of the council in committee on Tuesday next.; ■ .. ■ . ~: The Borough Council is taking ih hand the matter of widening Brunswick Eoaa where it. approaches the: river. The council decided last evening to ask owners of property on the southern side of the road whether they will give sufficient land to make it 66 feet wide, whilo those' owners on the northern side are to be asked if they are prepared to co-operate in a work which will onhance their val-' ues by means .of subsidy.
