PASSING OF THE PIONEERS.
.ME. JOHN P. M'BBTH. ; ;•,.. The death occurred this week (says;our Wanganui 'correspondent)- of Mr. '. John Frame. M'Beth,. aged 68. ' Deceased. was born at Weilington, where his parents were among the earliest settlers. :;As a. young man lie went to Eaugitikei, where he engaged in , farming—a- pittsuit. then attended with much danger owing to the ; hostility of tho Natives. In .186-1. ho en-' tc-ml the pobtiil. service, and was connected with it till three yeurs ago, when he resigned after a long and honourable official ■career. In 1867 Mr. M'Beth was appointed postmaster at Greymouth-p, position which he held .till IS7B, when he was transferred to AYa'nganui, where ho held the postmiuittrship for twenty year's.-' He was then .transferred' to Christchurch, where he was chief, postmaster .till he retired some three, yealrs since, when ho has resided'at Wanganui.
