FAITH-HEALING FAILS.
o A FATHER'S CRIME. GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. August 31, 8.15 p.m.) Sydney, August , 31. An exclusive reliance upon faith-heal-ing for tho treatment of a sick'child was responsible for the appearance of a bootmaker named Arthur Lloyd at the Central Criminal' Court to-day. Lloyd was formally charged with tho manslaughter of his five-year-old son, who died while under Christian Science treatment for diphtheria. Tho accused mado a statement in tho course of which he said he was not'a Christian Scientist, but had faith in Christian Science inethods. He had believed that his little boy's leg, which had been amputated, would grow again. The Christian Scientist who had been treating the boy had advised getting a doctor to diagnose the case. The child's mother stated that she ana her husband had been preparing to become Christian Scientists, but they had no faith in it now. A verdict of guilty was returned, with a strong recommendation to mercy on the ground that the accused • had been the dupe of another person. The judge, in sentencing Lloyd to three months' imprisonment, said he desired to pass a sentence in order to deter others from doing as Lloyd had done.
