4 WRITE WAIFS WITH MAORIS.; .- illy Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, August 27. White children among Maoris is a question which has again cropped up hero. One of the local papers is drawing attention to a case of mendicancy by a small white boy who, accompanied by a Maori lad, persists in'- auuoying people in the streets with requests for money. K Tho, paper suggests police'action with a view to placing such cases in a reforming, institution. The local Seamen's Mission is energetically furthering a scheme for the building of a sailors' homo at this port, and is approaching the Harbour Board with a viciv to obtaining the lease of a piece- ,of ground on Taupo Quay as a site for same.
