Kay, . vicar, of St. Luke's and St; Anne's Anglican Churches, announced to his-vestry ' ; that although both the Bishop and Archdeacon ■ ■wished him to remain in Wellington, and the vestry had offered to raise his .stipend by.. £W, . he had felt it Trig duty to accept the offer lie had received from England. Owing _to infUf- . ■ ferent health, he desired to leave after ;■ , fhe Mission of-Help,-into which he had "".': thrown himself heart and soul.. Much legretiwas expressed, and the following '. / r resolution was. passed unanimously: ■' "That this, vestry desire, to express '■'- ' their .deep, regret, at hearing of the Rev. ■ T. G..-lily's .departure from amongst tm, and desire" to place on record their. , high appreciation .of the good .work done ■ by : hiin in this parish, especially the ■ :■'' : building -of; two' permanent churches— . St..Luke'siand St.- Anne's—and they:pray- . ' that' ;his •' work-may' be, as . abundantly . blessed; in his new parish as it'has been in ours," " . . 'Mr.'Kay. thanked the vestry,.and paid ,a tribute-to :the-band, of workers by: ■ whom he. had been assisted. It was not the two brick churches that had been -built. that gave him tho. greatest . satisfaction, .but the fact that many men ..residing ,in Wadestown ' when . he camei who : at; that time never darkened the church's door, were now not, only ~'iegulaT attendants, but ' churchwardens, ■•: and members of the vestry. ' <Ur- Kay' left Selwyn College to become curate to the late Warden Canon Richards, of Lawrence, Otago. His 'work was principally in • the mining districts, 'which .'■•.'. included Waiporir where, service was ■. ■ * held in the Town Hall. - : : Very soon; however, the Methodist Church ' ana ..'. 'ground were purchased,'and a'considerable sum expended in improving the building: This field of: work: Mr. Kay relinquished ,to come to Wellington as curate at the. , Pro-Cathedral,_wifh special charge of Wadestown. Soon. afterwards ;.'■ Wadestown and Northland were constitu 7 ted: a separate parish, with Mr. Kay as ~ •vicar.':''.
