HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) -j, , TO. EAISE FUNDS. ' A bazaar is being organised by resiof Lower Hutt , for the purposo of raising funds to improve the site and playground of tile King's Road School, now in the course of construction. Two sewing-a-week bees are beiiig held, and the secondary girls are busily engaged preparing articles for the various stalls. THEATRE BEGUN. The building of the new Theatre at Lower Hutt lias been commenced by the promoter, Jlr. J. T. Hawthorn, and j;estcrday a number of workmen were given employment. The building will be ready for occupation in six months' time, and will have a floor suitable for skating. PETONE WEST SCHOOL. The monthly mooting of tho Petone West .School Committee was held last evening, when there were present Messrs. Castle (chairman), . Burridge, Maynard, Snow, Parrant, Cotton, Jlarsden, and tho acting-secretary, Mr. Davis. The Education Board wrote statin" that as the action of a certain school committee in carrying out certain alterations had proved detrimental, of the foundations, the board had found it necessary to advise all committees of the following resolution recently passed"That before any structural alterations to any school building or site, alteration or improvement, is undertaken by a committee, the sanction of the board should- be obtained." Tho board forwarded capitation due for quarter ended June, 1910. A lengthy communication relative to the keeping of accounts, and certain instructions were also received from the board, and tho committee Tesolved to acknowledge same. ■' ■ A deputation of 20 ICoro Koro residents waited on the committee to urge that ICoro. Koro School be made a side school, under the jurisdiction of the Petone West Committee. The committee expressed the view that' they were entirely in sympathy ■with the deputation, and' informed tho latter that they would assist the. ICoro ICoro School in every way possible. It was resolved on the motion of the chairtnan (after tho deputation . had stated that they would leave . the matter ,in the committee's hands) that the committee wait upon the Education Board, with a view to furthering this proposal.

Mr. Bedingfield . (headmaster) recommended certain alterations to the school buildings to provide accommodation for the library-museum. ..,-..

■■.' ■ AMBULANCE WAGON* ' A meeting of the controlling committee of the, Petone Ambulance Wagon. Fund.was. heldin the Mayor's room fast

evening. The object of the meeting was to discuss ways and means for raising tho remainder of the money to complete the wagon (about X'GO). It was resolved to make, a Ilou9e-to-hou.se canvass throughout Petone, and to accept the smallest donations. The Palace Skating Rink Proprietary intimated that' they would hold a carnival next Monday week, and that tho whole of the proceeds would be donated to tho fund. A GIFT. Mr. T. Coverdale, of Lower Htut, has presented the local main school with an additional 50 books for its library. All the books were selected by Mr. Yeatjj tho headmaster. > TEMPLARS. Tho Hope of Petone Lodge of Good Templars met iu force in tho Ranfurly Hall, Petone, on Wednesday ovenling, Sis. Fuller, C.T., presiding. 0110 new member was initiated and two proposed. Bro. A. .1. Wicks, Dis. Co., Wellington District Lodge, was officially received by members. 13ro. Kerslake, on behalf of his side, in the Carlylo system, for last quarter, intimated that a banquet would bo held on Friday night, to which members of both sides were invited. Bro. Wicks briefly addressed the lodge on aggressive work. The lodge then went into harmony, and items were given by Bro. J. Rose, D. Robertson, W. Denby, Townscnd, Wicks, Sisters Baum, Green, sen., and Denby. The programme for next meeting 19 by Bro. R". Kyle's side.
