SOME EXPLANATIONS. ' By Telesraph—Press Association—Copyright. Calcutta, August 17. With regard to the raid on-the house of Krishna" Ketniar Mitter, at Calcutta, and the seizure and examination of letters-from various Liberal and Labour M.P.'s, Mr. Hilaire Belloc (Liberal M.P. for Snlford South) states that the letter from him included in the find merely acknowledged receipt of one from an Indian correspondent, and that in the letter he had pointed out that he was ignorant of Indian affairs.
Mr. Lupton, ex-Liberal M.P. for'Sleaford, states ■ that he wrote to: Krishna's son, in reply to a.letter from the latter' thanking him for speeches made by him in the House of Commons, and in which he expressed sympathy with Indians who. had been deported.
