A conference between the Shipping Employers' Federation and twenty unions at Carlisle, discussed the' wages differences. An agreement was not reached, but a conciliatory spirit was shown. SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRUCK. Sydney, August .18. The parties concerned in the slaughtering trouble met in conference for an hour and a half. The meeting proved abortive. PERTH TRAM STRIKE OVER, . Perth, August 18. The tramway strike has ended, and the trams will start running on' Saturday nexty new employees having been engaged. The strikers have formally severed their connection with the company to avoid being prosecuted. (Rec. August 19, 0.35 a.m.) • Perth, August 18. A few trams were run to-day. There was considerable rowdyism and the police had difficulty in keeping the roadway clear. Three arrests were made.
