The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister v for Agriculture, is a passenger by the' Maori from Lyttelton this morning.
Mr. J.'.P. Luke, M.P. for Wellington Suburtis, who was sufficiently recovered to be able to attend tho House of Representatives on . Tuesday night, has .been ordered by his medical adviser to remain indoors for a few days.-
• The''Hon. Major Harris, M.L.C., who has just undergone an operation, .has been granted further leave of absence by the Legislative Council. The Hon. J. Marshall's leave has also been extended, i Mr. Fred. Penty (of Fenty and Lawrence, architects) is at'present'visiting Australia for the benefit "of his health.
Private G: Benson;. Wanganui Guards, has earned.the Colonial Auxiliary Forces long-servico medal.
Captain H. C. L. Eobinson, commanding the Masterton Rifles, has .resigned his command, and is now gazetted to the active unattached list.
The Rev. Herbert Watson is gazetted honorary chaplain to the Masterton Mounted Rifles.- '
Messrs. C. R. Pollen, T.'N. Brodrick, and J. S, Wratt have been gazetted school commissioners for the provincial districts of Hawke's Bay, Canterbury, and Nelson respectively... . v
Mr. H. H. Rayward returned from Auckland yesterday afternoon.
Tho executive of the'. Y-.M.C.A. Training College, at Springfield, Massachusetts, U.S.A., have appointed iir. 11. N. Hoimcs, general secretary ot the "Wellington Association, as corporator of the institution. Mr. Holmes will represent New Zealand, and will have the right to nominate representative trustees and directors of • the Springfield Institution for New Zealand. Mr. Virgo, of Sydney, is. to represent Australia.
Mr. H. 'Campbell, engineer, of the Waimarino County Council, who was to have tauen up duty sbortly as engineer of the Kiwitea County Council, will not, after all, enter .the. service of that bouy (says our Feilding correspondent). Ho has unexpectedly been offered.an important appointment by the Government' of Tonga conditional o nhis taking it up at once, and as it was too good an opportunity to refuse, he left by the Auckland boat on Tuesday last. He has joined the survey staff of King George i'ubou 11. •
The Rev. R. R, St. J. : Hovell, M.A. (youngest son of tho late Dean Hovell, of Napier) who for some; time past has been' curate of tho parish of St. James's, Fulham, London, leaves' in October next for South Africa, with tho Bishop of Mashonaland, to take up his duties as vicar of Gwel >, Rhodesia. Mr. Hovell was, a few years ago, in residence at St. John's College, Auckland, and attended lectures at the Auckland University College. Later he went to England, and studied at RidUy Hall, Cambridge.
