ALLEGED MINING FRAUD.
700 COMPLAINTS. A BIG TRANSACTION IN SHARES. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph-Press Association—Copyright. (Rec. August 14, 5.5 p.m.) New York, August 13. William Wintemute, who has been arrested on a charge of fraudulently using the post office to promote mining schemes, having, it is alleged, netted a million dollars, including £45,000 from English ladies of title, has been committed for trial, bail being fixed at £1000. There are 700 complaints against Wintemute. Half a ton of advertising literature was seized at Wintemute's palatial offices. It is alleged that he purchased 2,000,000 shares in the Gdldrun Mining Company at 2Jd. and retailed them at 45., having issued circulars announcing that there was ore valued at £800 sterling (?) in the mine after it had been destroyed by fire. ■
