serious accident if, willis street:."":-"" ■:; :A serious accidont occurred in Willis Street shortly before: noon-on .'Saturday; resulting in severe injuries to 'Mr. George Robert Fail; proprietor of tho Commercial Cafe. Mr. Fail was driving his pony 'delivery cart, and when opposite Messrs. Duthic's, the pony slipped on' the, tram rails. Mr. Fail was thrown to tho ground, and the wheel of the vehicle passed over his head, fracture of tho .skull resulting. The horse then, bolted. As'sista'nco was rendered ,to Mr. Fail, and he was removed in an unconscious state to tho hospital. At a late' hour last evening ho was reported to be progressing aa favourably as was to bo expected from the nature of .his injuries. DRIVER INJURED. On Saturday a driver named Alfred Mikoz was admitted to the' hospital, suffering from broken ribs. It appears that he was delivering coal to the Victoria Home, and in some manner his horse sworved and jammed him against the shed, with "the result named. Hs is now progressing favourably'. An inquest was held at the morgue on Saturday, before Mr. W. R. Haselden,, S.M., Coroner,, touching the death of Ellen Mary Davis, who died suddenly at her residence, Street, on Friday. Dr. Kington Fyffe gave evidence, as the result of a post-mortem examination, that death ■ was due to acute peritonitis, caused by the rupture of a gastric ulcer. A, verdict was given accordingly. MAXAWATU ACCIDENTS. ; (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! Palmerston, August 15. —.Bryan, a settler of Awahuri, was accidentally shot in tho leg by a companion while out shooting this morning. The wound is serious. ; % Arthur ,Geuge, of Awahuri, fell- off the Palmerston train a mile north of Koputaroa last night. The train did not stop, though the accident was reported, and no particulars:are available here.
OLD IDENTITY'S SUDDEN DEATH. Auckland, August 13. An old Parnell resident, Mr. John Sinythe, died • suddenly in Manukau Road oh Saturday morning. • ; After transacting business in Queen Street, he went up to Parnell by tram, and entered tho shop of Mr. Murray, chemist, to inquire for that gentleman, who happened to be out. Mr. 'Smytho was leaving the shop, but had scarcely crossed the threshold when ho fell for-' ward on his face. He was picked up cut and bleeding about the face, and taken back to the shop. •He was then still alive, but expired before a medical man, who was summoned, could arrive, i MYSTERY ENDED. Dargaville, August 14. The body of Fred Whitehouso, late cook of the schooner Isabella De Frame, was found in Hie river to-day, floating up with the tide; Deceased mysteriously disappeared about two weeks ago. MAN DROWNED. Walroa, August 13. A inan known by the name of M'Mastcrs, employed by Mr. Ingrain, Opouiti, was drowned there on Thursday last. He was crossing the Wairoa River in a boat, which got into the rapids and capsized. Tho body has not yet been found.
