STATE LAND PURCHASES.
According to the annual report of the Land Purchaso Inspector (Mr. J. D. : Ritchie), 122 properties, containing 231,853 acres, were offered to the Govornmont last year. Of these 14, containing 48,287. acres, were purchased; but four had hot been taken possession' of. 'Tho actual expenditure for tho year was making a total of JC5,407,792 paid, since tho commencement of tho Act as purchase money for estates containing 1,238)01)6 acres. The balanco to tho credit of the fund at March 31 was JE202.497. Tho report further state? that the sum of .£10,216 hns been paid under Section 177. of tho Land Act, which {fives the right ,to the owner of a leasc-in-porpetuity to purchase the fee-simple, and JJ1457 under. Section 191 of the Land Act, which gives the ownor of a renewable lease tho right to pay 90 per cent, of,the capital valuo.
