'l'he Wellington branch of the Navy Lfcilgue met last' evening in the Cham-, her of Commerce, Lieut-Colonel Hume presiding. . . . - , The secretary stated that Mr. Parker would Itavo for Napier shortly, but immediately on'his return would commence; rehearsals, in connection ivitli the liague'a demonstration. ' ; A letter was received from'the'Minister for Marine appreciating the resoln- ' tions .passed at a former meeting of the league with reference to the ent ■ size of the training ship Amokura. The letter, stated, in conclusion: "It is pleasing' to note that, within the limits of 'the scheme that is in force at present, the movement has met with eo much support." Captain Hooper wrote intimating that: the annual competition for the victory....' Shield, presented by the ladies' sectftm of the branch, will be held on board the Amokura shortly. The secretary's action in . arranging for a lecture by Lieut. Sydenham, R.N., was approved. It wos- decided to order another' gross of. lSrskine Childor's book, "The Riddle of the Sands," cloth binding, for distribution among the. senior members of tlio school branches. It was reported that since last meeting of the branch 17 adults and • £.'63 juveniles had been enrolled. For thoforthcoming demonstration, which is to be given on September 7 and for which eighteen different, schools are practising, special songs are being supplied by tlio league. | .
