THE HUNT.

SMOKE CONCERT AT OTAKI. Otaki members of the Manawatu Hunt Club .wot at /fho Druids' Hall, on Monday night, to celcbrato the closing of tho season. Mr. J. D. Howell .presided. The toast list was as follows:—"Manawatu Hunt Club," proposed by Mr. A. Strawbridge, and responded to by Jlr. 1). Bennett, in a capital speech, outlining the progress. of tho sport in tho Otaki district; "I'roperty Owners," proposed by Mr. J. G. Jamieson, and responded to by •Mr. Burncll, of Manaknu, and Mr. Kingi Tahiwi; "Kindred Sports," < proposed by Mr. Kingi' Tahiwi, and responded to by Messrs. T. Paratn and T. O'Rourke; "The Chairman," proposed by Mr. D. Bennett; "The .Railway Officials," responded to by Messrs. Sherbert and Dick; and "Tho Ladies," proposed by Mr.- Parata; ana

"The Press." During the evening presentations were made to the district secretary (Mr. J. G. Jamieson) and Mr. D.Bennett (huntsman), in recognition : of services rendered to tho club.

Prior to dispersing, Mr. Jamieson suggested a "meet" at Miramar, which should tend to nialce the sport in and near Wellington popular. Messrs. O'Rourke and Beatjtio endorsed the remarks. ' Mr. Jamieson also pointed out that it was probable that a point-to-point steeplechase . would also be held, tlie day's sport- to terminate with a ball. With this object in view, a meeting would probably be called near the end of the present month.

During the .evening songs were given by Messrs. Deans, Lanchester, Tattersall,> Enoka, Sherbert, Kingi, and Beattie, a stump speech by Mr. 'I'attersall, recitations by Messrs. Lanchester, Dean, and Sherbert, a story told by Mr. Naughton, while Mr. Bennett gave a trick exhibition. Messrs. Tahiwi and Enoka played the accompaniments. WAIRARAPA EVENT.' The last run > of tho season in connection with the Wairarapa Hunt was held at Opaki yesterday afternoon, when there was a good" following of huntsmen.
