GOLF.

THE LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP. Entries for the New Zealand ladies' golf championship close to-morrow .with Miss Nora Campbell, hon. secretary of the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club. Miss Rattray, the president of the Ladies' Golf Union, and thrice champion, will bo absont on account of a projected trip Home. Mrs. Guy Williams and Miss Stephenson, both' ex-champions, are also, it is understood, unable to make the trip to Christchurch. On-the other hand, no doubt there will be a good muster of the younger generation of players, and the contest should prove interesting. Among tho most'prominent of these who are expected to put in an appearance at Shirley may be mentioned Mrs. Bevan, of Otaki, the present holdor, Miss Snodgrass, of Wtetport, who defeated Mts. Bevan for tho Manawatu open championship last year, and who is such a sound golfer that she must bo reckoned with in the championship event, Miss Wray, of Manawatu,' who on her day plays golf second to none, and who has already defeated Mrs. Bevan in an inter-club contest, Miss Gould, and Mrs. Ward, of Dunodin, both of whom' are playing Tight up to top fornr this season. Miss Hindmarsh, of Napier, Miss Braithwaite, of Hastings, Miss Cave, o£ Wanganui, a largo contingent from Auckland, including Miss Ethel Martin, the club champion, and Miss Ethna Pierce, runner-up for a previous championship. Wellington will probably bo represented by Miss Lucy Brandon, last year's runner-up, Miss Pearce, and Miss Hannay, while Mrs. Bidwell, of AVairarapa, will probably stay over from tho Grand National to take part in the tournament. Miss Christie, of Oamaru, champion in. 1908, and Miss Rev'ell, of Timaru, the runnerup the same year, may bo expected to take, part, while the Christchurch Club will, of course, ■ bo numerously represented, the list being headed by Miss A. Humphreys and Miss Nora Campbell. Unfortunately, Miss Cowlishnw, who is in tho final round for the Christchurch championship, is at present, laid up with pneumonia, nnd may bo unable to compete.
