THE STATE COLLIERIES.
DECREASE IN YEAR'S OUTPUT.
According to a review of . the Stafa ooal-mines in the annual statement of the Minister for Mines, the total output from tho State collieries during the past vear wa5.281,630. tons,, being a decrease of 5321 tons as compared with the previous year. There was a decrease of 18,406 tons in the output from the Point Elizabeth mine owing to a cessation- of iwork ai the mine' pending the arrangement of a new working agreement; since this was settled work had proceeded uruder normal conditions. ■'.
The Seddonville' mine produced 74,180 .tons during the year, being an increase of 15,137- tons over, the output of tho' previous year. Prospecting-bores . had. been put down in a new scction.of this : mine with satisfactory results; further prospeoting-borea would be put in during the year,, as the. present, workings were being worked out. It was probable the development work in this new section of this mine would require to be undertaken'soon. , , . The development work in connection with the Point Elizabeth No. 2 colliery was making satisfactory progress, and it was expected that coal froin this mine would.be on the market within the next ten months. Tho briquette-works were ddle for several months of'the year, owing chiefly to the demand for small coal having greatly increased in consequence of the strike in the New South Wales coal-mines. Tho depots generally had had increased demands for ooal, resulting in the extenc sion of trade and more profitable results. ' ' ■
