The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) was prevented from attending tho House last night, na he had contracted a cold. A privato telegram received in Wellington yesterday' morning states that James Worrall, eldest son of Captain .Worrall, of the steamer Manuka, died in Diinediu on Wednesday night. The deceased, who was 16 years of age, was born in Wellington, and attended the Roseneath School until the family, removed to Dunedin. The Rev. Father Ainsworth, of Hokitikn, is visiting Wellington. . Dogs had better keep away from Newtown Park. Tho City Council has decided to have notices put up in various parts of the park to the cffect that dogs found in the grounds will be destroyed, and proceedings taken against tho owners: Before this was agreed to at last night's meeting of tho council, Councillor Fitzgerald protested against undue interference with tho right of a person to take a dog into the park on a chain. If the object was to protect the zoo, the rule should be restricted to that part of the grounds. Councillor Hindmarsh replied in humorous vein: "Councillor Fitzgerald is to be congratulated on sticking up for the rights of mankind, but we are sticking up for the rights of monkey-kind. (Laughter.), Unfortunately they don't vote, but they ought to bo considered." Mr. M. Cable, assistant-electrical tramways engineer, will be. the City Council's representative at the annual conference of the Australasian Tramway Officers' Association, to be held in Adelaide. Mr. J. J. F. Kelly has been appointed Registrar ■of Births, Marriages, and Deaths in tho Hutt district.
