The vessel was delayed by heavy weather in the .Southern Ocean. Captain W. G. Watt reported leaving New. York with a full general cargo on May 19. A fine weather run brought, the vessel to St. Vincent's where she arrived on June 2. Coal having boon bunkered the voyage was resumed tho ..same day, and strong head winds, accompanied by moderate to rough seas, beset the Strathclyde to the Cape of Good Hone, which was passed on June 23. After this date the Strathclyde went 'through some trying experiences. Battered by heavy sobb. and tremendous gales she struggled along at little more than a snail's pacn for days.- Rain and hail beat on her decks alarmingly. On tho morning of July 4 her rolling was tremendous, and just prior to noon a. Chinese cools, named Ah Jlong, was found dead in ■ his bunk. The man was suffering from 1 'wart disease, and it 1? supposed that tho hoavy plunges of tho steamer had brought about the unfortunate cook's death. ' His hody was buried at sea. ■ Eight' up to Uapo Otway the Strathclyde had fearful weather 1 to contend with, but she suffered no other damage than the loss of a few deck fit- ' tings. Her voyage occupied 66 days. She ; ,is duo at Wellington on August .15., THE LIGHTING OF PORT JACKSON. ' The Sydney Harbour Trust Coranils- ■ sioners are fully alive to the importance [ of improving the lighting of Port Jack--1 son, and a scheme, which had bnen under consideration for some time, was settled ; 'V.thpm in October of lant year. (<1) To place a gas buoy, with an occulting red light, about two cables due west of the Hornby light. 1 (e) To place a g.is buoy, with an 'occulting whit- !'■?'". '. Tho commissioners believe that the t scheme described will mako the lighting , of the port absolutely satisfactory and m)-t«-dnt«. oud will, t.hoy consider, moot all the requirements of iiractic.il navigators. They add that the scheme has been . endorsed by Vlco-Aduilrai Sir Richard ' Poorc. the Rommiindcr-in-Uhicf'of tho Aus- ■ triilian station.
