July 27, 0.5 a.m.) ■ London, July 26. >In the House of Commons, Mr. Chamberlain inquired' regarding the action of Mr. Lloyd-George,- Chancellor of the Exchequer, in varying the assessment of public-houses in Ireland! The Finance Act prescribed the Griffiths valuation, plus 20 per centum, but under an'administrative order'the addition would not exceed five per centum. Mr. Lloyd-George replied that 50 per centum was merely possible as a maximum. The Griffiths valuation, with 5 per centum • added,. represented a fair, value.
