A SUGGESTION FROM RAGLAN.

Sir,—ln Tee Dominion newspaper of July 7 I noticed a snort article which says "it is understood that a company is being formed'at Wanganui for the pui pose of running a number of small steamers between Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Kawhia." Why not nave the boats come on to Raglan which is two hours' steam from Kawhia? Probably a fair passenger .traffic would soon eventuate. Many of the settlers came here from the south, and they will be pleased to see their friends occasionally. Very shortly Home 'steaniera are likely to 110 at the New Plymouth wharf. When they do so, the butter from our'factories, it is thought, will ..be 'sent, direct to the English market.by them. . I hare in my travels-seen much of the four Continents,^'and'of Australia,. New Zealand, and the South Sea Islands. For many years.l lived in Taranaki, but the natural beauties of this town (Raglan) have charmed me so much that I purpose to end my days hero. The Countv of. Raglan is a large one. What has kept it back have beon the large areas of Native land. The roads made by the-set-tlers have .made these lands valuable yet they pay no rates towards their construction and maintenance. ' The Maoris themselves begin to see tin's arrangement is not'fair. We mav, therefore, hope shortly to >see things altered. In summer the town of Eaglan is well invaded by visitors,' who come here to enjoy the quietness, the fishing, and the harbour excursions'. There are several motor launches on the harbour, and some of the bays .on the harbour are indeed lovely, especially one about, five miles up On the way. to Hamilton by launch and coach the road passes the hot; curative springs of Waingaro.—l am, etc., ' , ... A'. KYNGDON. Eaglan, July 12.
