HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) e . There was a large attendance at the Hope of Petone Lodge of Good Templars' meeting held in the Ranfurly Hal), Petone, last evening. Bro. W. Denby, C.T., occupied the chair. Three new members wero initiated and two proposed for next week. Tho lodge unanimously adopted the following resolution on tho motion of Bro. T. Townsond, G.E.S., who stated that a similar motion would go through tho various lodges in the Dominion during the next week or two. The motion was as follov/3:-"That this meeting welcomes the platform of the New Zealand Alliance as adopted by tho recent conference, embracing as it does a special vote on Dominion option when taken at next election, on a separate ballot paper; also the bare majority decide the issues and full enforcement of the law, and the abolition of bottle licenses, breweries in nolicense areas, beer depots within ten miles of a no-license electorate. And we urge all our members to assist in furthering these measures through the present Parliament, and, failing that, to assist in uniting politically for the furthering of these principles." Bro. Sutton, of India, and Bro. Andrews, of Ashburton, spoke on the work in their parts, A musical programme was given by Sisters Pepper, A. Scager, and M. Seager, Bros. Howith, Kyle, Thomas, and Silbeny. The white and black skating carnival, held at the Lowei Hutt rink last night was a success, there being upward- of 300 skaters in almost every kind of poster dress imaginable. A programme of races, musical chairs, and waltzing was greatly appreciated.
