Under a New York State law applicable to New Yorkers outside the State, tho District Attorney of New York City is prosecuting "Dig Tim" Sullivan, a Stato Senator aad Tammany loader, for hold, ing the stakes at the Johnson-Jeffries fight. THE PICTURES AGIATION. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PROMISE. Adelaide, July 13. The Premier (Mr. J. Verran) told a deputation that ho would take every legitimate means to stop the fight pictures being shown. If the Commonwealth Government could not prevent their entry he would endeavour to pass a Dill to prohibit their being admitted to South Australia. VICTORIA INDEFINITE. Melbourne, July 13. The Stato Premier (Mr. J. Murray) gave an indefinite reply to a deputation that waited on him to urge that tho-Johnson-Jeffries fight pictures should not be allowed to bo shown in Victoria. He added that if boxing in Victoria developed into brutality the Government would take action. GOVERNMENT ATTITUDE. PRIME MINISTEtTanSWERS MR. TAYLOR. Asked by Mr. T. E.. Tavlor whether the Government will pass legislation to prevent moving pictures of tho brutal prize fight between Johnson and Jeffries being exhibited in New Zealand, the Prime Minister states that special legislation dealing with one case is undesirable, and general legislation applicable to this and similar cases has already been prepared, and will shortly be submitted to Parliament. CLERICAL RESOLUTIONS. At the meeting of the Wellington Ministers' Association yesterday, it was resolved:—"That this meeting* of the Wellington Ministers' Association enters a strong protest against brutal details ot boxing contests being reported in tho columns of the public press, to tho glorification of prize fighting and the gross outrage of humane sentiment, and pledges itself to to the utmost of its power the repetition of such outrages in tho representation of thc.-e disgusting details by kinemafograph or other process, and it calls upon,the Prime Minister to take such steps as may he necessary to prevent such iwhibitinjis." "Thai, the Wellington Ministers' Association call upon tile Government to prevent by legislation professional boxing contests in I lie Dominion. The association believes (hat the encouragement of professional lighting is inimical to the interests of humanity." A CLUB'S RESOLUTION. At a meeting of the Dear-a-Hand Club, held on Tuesday evening (in connection with the Missions to Seamen, Wellington), the following .resolution was parsed:—"That this meeting expresses its strong disapproval of the recent Johnson-Jeffries' fight in America, which was followed by scenes of bloodshed, disorder, anil bitterness; and that this meet ing. regarding (lie exhibition of the moving pictures ot the fight as demoralising to the community, respectfully urges the Government lo prohibit the'exhibition of such pictures, as very many authorities have done in other places."
