A PARAPARAUMU SENSATION. SHOTS FIRED. CHARGE OF ROBBERY UNDER AIIAIS. Paraparaumu, on the Manawatu line, was tho scene of great excitement, and some consternation yesterday morning when it was reported that two armed youths bad entered the house of a Uhiueso gardener and demanded, at the point of tho revolver, his money or his life. The Chinaman in question quickly retreated through tho back door, being speedily followed by his two mates. Their cries alarmed tho neighbourhood, ami tho youths disappeared. The Chinese, and one or two civilians, however, got on their track, and started in pursuit. One of the youths, whilo being pursued by ono of the Chinamen, is stated to have turned round and fired one or moro shots with the revolver. Tho chase then ceased, and Constable Satherley, of Otaki, was at once informed. After telephoning to the police station at Wellington, tho constable mado for tho scene of the excitement. Detectives Cassells, Kemp, and Lewis also took a motor-car, arriving at Paraparaumu shortly after noon. Tho detectives found that Constable Satherley had arrested one of the youths, who gave tho name of Frank Wilson, and later on said his name was Frank Dean. Ho was, it is stated, found with a sixchambered revolver in his possession, fully loaded. Tho other youth was also subsequently arrested at Te Horo by the same constable. He had a number of cartridges on him, and stated that Ihe had thrown the revolver away. He gavo his name as Charles Hatley, and later on said his name was Charles King.

Tho two prisoners were brought on to Wellington la_st evening, and lodged in the cells at the Central Police Station. They informed the detectives th.it they came from Sydney, but subsequently admitted that Wiey belonged to Petone.
