EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Eastborne Borough Council'met at Rona Bay on Saturday evening. Present: the Mayor (Jlr. H. \Y. Shortt), Messrs. Foley, Mackenzie, Organ," Ross, Russell, Sanson and Wilis. it was decided to sue for out-standing rates without further notice.
Mr. R". S. Rounthwaite forwarded his report upon the possible water supply sources for tho borough. He advocated she proposed tunnel scheme, upon which he reported fully. Ho estimated tho cost of connectiug the supply with the borough per medium of a tunnel, -.22 l-3rd. chains long, at £3260. This includes cost of intake works at" the stream, concrete race to tunnel, and necessary engineering and supervision charges. The council was favourably impressed ivith the scheme as outlined in the report. The mayor explained that the reticulation of the borough would cost another £2000. It was decided to consider the report at a special meeting of the council within a fortnight, with a view to putting the scheme before the ratepayers. Tho Finance Committee recommended tho striking of a general rate of lid. in the pound on the unimproved values, and a Hospital and Charitable Aid rateof nine-sixty-fourths of n penny in the pound on the capital values for the current year. Theso rates were approved, and will come up for coniirmation at a later meeting. Tlie special loan rate of Jd. on unimproved values will also bo struck. It was decided to repair Nikau Street and carry out other small improvement works. Tho Town Clerk was appointed Inspector of Nuisances.
