(Prom Our Special Correspondent.) CARTERTON. One of the finest motor-cars that lias yet graced the streets of Carterton came over the Rimutaka Hill a fewdays ago to the order of a well-known AVairarapa Native, Mr. Rori Kingi. A proposal is on foot to form an egg circlo in Carterton, to be run on lines somewhat similar to those of the association recently formed in Mnsterton. The object is to olitain a move satisfactory and uniform return for tho producer. A meeting to consider the matter is to be held on the evening of tho second day of the South AVairarapa Poultry Association's animal show. Tho Government engineer was a visitor to Carterton on Monday! the visit being in connection with the Government roads in the district. Tho heavy rains of tho past fewdays have caused a number of slips on the Kast Coast Road, between Jackson's Creek and tho coast.
CREYTOWN. Tho Greytowu Borough Council met on Monday cvoning. Mr. C. Hawke, water overseer, tendered his resignation, and the committee wero directed to call for applications for tho position. Dr. Bey reported a case of diphtheria. Tho patient has since died of heart failure. Tho State Guaranteed Advances Board informed the council that their application for £6000 would now bo granted for the erection of gas installation. The District Health Officer wrote, summarising the powers of local bodies under the Health Act, and requesting the attendance of a Greytown representative at a conference. A communication was received from the Government District Engineer regarding the bridge over the. Papawai Creek at Maungarere. Tho Department declined to approve tho, bridge, and suggested filling in the bottom of the creek. It was decided to write to Ministers on the subject. The Works' Committee's report recommended sundry repairs and the grading of several roads. Tho Finance Committeo reported as follows;— Debit to bank, £446 6s. Id.; receipts for month, £353 19s. 7d.; accounts requiring settlement, £100 4s. Id. The sanitary inspector reported on the state of the main road, which ho characterised as unsatisfactory, a view which did not, however, find favour with the Mayor. The ranger reported impounding twelve head of cattle. It was decided to meet a committee from the Fire Brigade with a view to taking over their property. Miss Tocker was appointed librarian at the public library, vice Miss Dunn. The latter was niado the recipient of a handsome cake basket by the councillors. At tho annual meeting of the Wairarapa Permanent Investment and Loan Association, the directors presented a report showing £46,561 as out ou mortgage; 1315 investment shares were now, current, 125 having been paid oif, and 149 new ones issuedMessrs. M. Caselberg and 'C. B. Pharazyn were re-elected auditors. Messrs. Mark Maxton, Horatio Dudding, and A. L. AVebster were nominated as auditors, and Messrs. Maxton and AVebster were elected. Votes of thanks to the directors and management brought tho meeting to a close.
