—:—_« .' ITrom Our Special Corrcauondent.f Tho annual free concert under tho auspices of tho Potono Working Men's Club, which was hold in the Oddfellows' Hall last night, was a successful event. A lengthy programme of music, songs, and story was well received. A party from H.M.S. Pioneer delighted the audience with an item entitled "Tho Schoolboy." At tho Potono Police Coiiru yesterday morning, befoi'o Mr.. W. Inglis, J.P.', one first offender for insobriety was convicted and discharged. Members present at tho monthly .meeting of the governors of the Petone Technical School Board held last evening were: Bov. A. Thomson (chairman), Messrs. Castle, Jones, Finlay, Dunoah. . Southgato, M'Kenzie, List, M'Ewan, and Truemau. Tho director was instructed to interview tho technical drawing instructor with a view to beginning a "steam" class in conjunction with the other technical drawing class. The director (Mr. J. Lynskcy) reported a general increase in the nlasses this quarter, with the exception of one. ' A class for chemistry and cookery had "been begun with- a good complement of pupils. The total number of pupils attending was now 218, as against 115 last quarter. It was reported that tho circularising of parents during the vacation, for the purpose of increasing tho classes, had had a beneficial effect. Mr. Castle reported that tho solicitor had advised, in reference to the section of land which was procured years ago for a boys' institute, that the trustees'had dime-nothing to warrant tlicir not continuing in that capacity. Mr. M'Ken/.io risked what was going to he tho final stage in this matter. . The ltov. A. Thomson explained that although the deeds were in the hands of the board they were conditional. Tim triintoes had to bo unanimous in the disnosal of the section, and whilst- Mr. M'Kenzio was jiistifiod in wishing to acquire the land for swimming baths, lie (Mr. Thomson) was of the "opinion that it might be of greater value to the Technical School. Owing lo the falling olf of tho electricity class, it was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the director and to bring down a report next meeting.
