Cooper (Dunedin), and won the championship. Heavy-weights.—P. Huston tDunodin) beat F. Maloney (Dunedin;, and won the- championship. Bantam-weights.—J. Leckie (Dunedin) beat ! C. Armstrong (Dunedin), and won the championship. Light-weights. —A. Farquharson (Dunedin) beat H. Winter (Dunedin); M. Leckio (Dunedin) beat Farquharson, 'and won the champiouship.
AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, July 5. The Auckland provincial amateur boxing championships were brought to a conclusion this evening. •■ The events created great interest, His Majesty's Theatre being. packed_ each evening. Last night ten preliminary bouts were fought, and, to-night, -the semi-finals were.decided. A.record, entry was ceived. The results arc as follow: — Bantam-weights.—T. • O'Brien. Feather-weights—E. 0. Mera. Light-weights;—L. Ross. Avelter-weights.— G. Seager. , Middle-weights.—E. Patrick. Heavy-weights.—A draw between C. Savory (14st.) and A. ' Pooley (list. 101b.).. . .
SOME FRIENDLY BOUTS. The Athletics Committee of _ - St. Anne's Club, Newtown, being desirous of stimulating the physical culture si?j of the club's activities, organised a boxing display at the ciubroom last, evening, several exponents of the art of selfdefence being, invited to attend and show their paces. .Mr. Guise presided, and Mr. James Doyle acted as referee for the bouts, of which thero were five. The referee stated at the. outset. that no decisions would be given. . The redoubtable "Tim" Tracy and D. Murphy boxed a strenuous three rounds. This item was succeeded by a duel between Galvin and Gould, which proved to be a willing spar. 'Other' ©vents were the 1 Gosling-Porter bout, a lively three rounds between Porter and Moran, and the youths' event—Galvin v. Newton. There was.a good attendance of club members, and those present spent an interesting evening studying tho various points of the art as exemplified by the contestants.
