SIR CHARLES BOWEN.
■.CONGRATULATED BY THE GOVERNOR. His Excellency the Governor received the Hon. Dr. Findlay and all the members of the Legislative Council now in Wellington at the official residence, Molesworth Street, at 2.45' p.m. yesterday,, in connection with the introduction ,of the Speaker, the Hon. _ Sir Charles Bowen,, on his re-election. After being formally introduced, his Excellency said:—"Honourable members of the Legislative'Council,—Li accordance with constitutional practice, you have come to-day to introduce to me the Speaker, whom you have recently elected to that important office. May I take this opportunity of tendering to you, Sir Charles Bowen, my congratulations on the honour that has again been so spontaneously conferred on you. And perhaps I may be permitted to add my congratulations to the Legislative Council, in that by your selection of Sir Charles Bowen iyou have secured as your Speaker to preside over your deliberations one who for so many years past has occupied a position of the highest distinction in the public life of New Zealand} and who thereby has so entirely earned the confidence and esteem not only "of yourselves, but of the whole community, irrespective of parties."
