Among the returns submitted to Parliament yesterday was one showing the number "of .members in each industrial union registered under tho Arbitration Act to December 31, 1809. In all there are, 120 industrial unions of employers, having a total membership of 3699. Of industrial unions of workers thero are 308, having a total membership of 54,019. Altogether 20 unions failed to send in returns, including the Marten branch of tho Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, the Napier shop assistants, tho Pahiatiia branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, tho Petono and Hutt Borough Councils' sanitary workers, tho Wairarapa drovers and shepherds, the Hawke's Bay Sawmillcrs' Association, and the and Oroua Master Painters' Association. Hearing of the appeal in connection with the refusal of the Court to grant a new trial of tho libel action, Bertling r. Norton, has been fixed for today. The Court of Appeal will hear the case of the Taupo Totara Timber Company and another v. Lynn and Poppehvell on Monday, July 11, instead of to-day.
A number of the delegates to tho Municipal Conference visited the corporation destructor yesterday afternoon, and were shown round by. tho city engineer (Mr. W. H. Mdrton). To-morrow morning they will have the opportunity of witnessing a fire brigade demonstration outside the Town Hall at 10.30 a.m. A 'deputation from, the conference will then wait upon the Minister for Internal Affairs (Hon. D. -Buddo) to lay various requests beforo tho Government. The interview over, delegates and tho ladies who are in "Wellington with them will 1)0 entertained nt luncheon at Day's Bay, by the City Council.

Among the many special editions of London's leading illustrated papers, none is finor than tho double-sized "special" of the "Illustrated London News." Tho edition consists entirely of full.and doublc-pago illustrations of the scenes during the funeral of the late King Edward VII, including somo of the best photographs of the cortege in London'and at Windsor, and somo magnificent drawings by the 'best black and whito artists in London. Tho number contains a very fine supplement, drawn by G. D'Armoto, picturing the great pageant of a nation's woo passing through Hyde Park. The pictures in proper sequence follow tho procession from Westminster Hall, where the body lav in state, to St. George's Chapel, Windsor. "The Graphic" funeral'edition is also a very fine one. Among a wealth of beautiful pictures, it gives a portrait of all tho. ltoyal personages present, and also gives bird's-eye plans of thoso sections of London and Windsor through which the funeral passed. Both of these numbers ol historical interest are to be obtained from Messrs. C. S. and P. Cording, of Courtenay Place, who made special arrangements to get them at the earliest possible moment.
A meeting of the ,- proposed new suburban rifle club was held in the Garrison Hall, Buckle Street, on Monday evening. There was a fair attendance of members present.. The application enrolment form is to bo forwarded to the Government in the course of a few days for acceptance. The election of officers and other business were left over until next' meeting. . .'

The Boys' Institute Cadet Volunteers held a "pound social" last night, and organised a social club. Colour-Ser-geant Daly was elected secretary; Sergoant M'Phun, treasurer; and Private K. Anderson to the committee. It was decided to hold monthly meetings. Major Hume, who was present, gave a brief lecture on physical training, and the club resolved to form a physical training class, with Major Humo as instructor.
