(Trom Onr Special Correspondent.! A crowded house attended the monthly concert under the direction of the Hutt Valley No-License League in the Vic_toriu Hall, l'etone, last night. Mr. A', li. Thompson gave an address on the "Aims and Objects of Good Templary." The following contributed items:—Misses Battersby, H. Millwood, Pomfvey, Pctherick, ltyan, and Messrs. Israel, Vcrdno, Gray, I'etlicrick, Hill, Henry, Church and Kobertson. ■ The programme concluded with a humorous dialogue, the characters being creditably sustained by the Misses Denby, Millward, Smith. Mrs. Fuller, and Messrs. Townsend, Rose, and Denby. Tin: monthly sitting of the Lower llntt Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mr. W. J{. Haselden presiding. , Thomas Turner was charged with assaulting Thomas Edlin at Lower Hutt on Juno .22 last. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was fined .42, with 21s. costs. On the civil side, tho case George Bradley v. Albert Samuels (a claim of lGs. Gd. for a motor appliance), judgment was given for defendant, without costs. Judgment by default was given in the following eases: Commissioner of Taxes v. Mary Coffey, 15s. 7d. ami costs 55.; same v. Timothy Coffcj",'.El Cs. 7(1., costs 55.; State Guaranteed Advances Superintendent v. James K. Mabey, £5 3s. Bd., with costs Bs.; George M'llvride v. P. liing, 175., and as. costs. In the action Arthur Edward Cornish v. Gilbert Mirams, claim JEIO 4s. Gd., judgment for plaintiff was given for lis. Gd., without costs. The proceedings at the weekly meeting of the l'otone Wesley Guild last night took the form of n mock Parliamentary election. Messrs. Ackroyd, Simpson, W. llepplostom?. Blakely, and Jackson offered themselves as candidates, and after highly enjoyable and effective speeches had been given by the candidates Mr. ,I'jinkely was elected on tho first ballot, he having an absolute majority.
