ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
BLOWN OFF WHARF AND DROWNED. Whangarei, July 4. While returning from Whangarei very late on Saturday night a party of workmen lauded from a launch at tho Ccinent Company's wharf, Limestone Island. Hugh Coll, a single man of about 45, turned back to get a parcel from the end of tho wharf, when he was caught by the galo and blown into tho harbour. A terrific current was running and a choppy sea. A search by tho. launch in the darkness was unavailing.
MAORIS AND FLOODED STREAM. Gisborne, July 4. A Maori named To Katua Koran was drowned while crossing tha Awatcre River on Saturday evening. Three Natives were lording a Hooded stream; one got across, anil the second, on a small pon.v, was swept away and drowned. Tho third had an exciting exporicnco. Being swept from the horse, he managed to hold on to the crupper, and was dragged ashore. In recovering the body from the surf several men had narrow escapes.
SUICIDE. Reefton, July 4. A young man named Thompson, who attempted suicide on Wednesday, died in the hospital yesterday.
