ST. JOHN AMBULANCE NURSES
The monthly meeting of the committee who control tho operations of tho District Nursing Guild of St. John, was held yesterday afternoon, when tho following members were present:—Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, Lady of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (president), Mrs. W. B. Tripe, Mrs. E. BalcombeBrown, Mrs. Sefton Moorhouse, Mrs. 'J. P. Luke, Mrs. A. A. Corrigan, Mrs. H. W. Preston, and Mrs. H. B. Fisher (hon. secretary). Before tho ordinary business of the meeting was commenced, Mrs. Tripo referred to the distinction recently conlerred on the president, and proposed the following resolution'"That the sincere and hearty congratulations of the guild 'be tendered to the president, Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, upon tho occasion of tho distinguished honour conferred upon her by His Most Gracious Majesty King George V, in granting to her the dignity of Lady of Grace of tho Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and further, that tho members of the guild appreciate how completely their president is worthy of such a magnificent testimonial to her untiring offorts ju furthering tho progress and establishing the charitable aims of tho St. John Ambulance Association." Mrs. Balcombe-Brown, in a highly eulogistic speech, seconded tho resolution, which was carried unanimously. Mrs. Rhodes feelingly responded, and spoke at some length in regard to the support and co-operation sho had received from the eommittce and tho large number of friends interested in, the work of tho District Nursing Guild. The senior district nurse submitted hev report, which set forth, inter alia, that 18 additional patients had been registered during June, ten discharged, ana three sent to the General Hospital. Nurses Sexton and Macandrew paid 912 visits during the month to patients suffering from a whole variety of afflictions. The committee recorded its thanks to the proprietors of His Majesty's Theatre for admitting free of charge a largo number of children to see the pictures on June 15. The following subscriptions to current account are thankfully acknowledged:—Nga Tawa school pupils, ,£l 3 5 . ; Reid and Fenwiek, 55.; Dr. J. Harold Kemp, .£2 2s. A further list of tho special donations to the capital account will shortly be published.
