GAUGING CHAMPION BUTTERS.
CHANGES SOUGHT. In connection with the- National Dairy Show, members of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers' Association met Mr. D. Cuddio, dairy commissioner, on Friday morning, regarding the conditions under which butter championships are awarded. At present the. points are scored on the highest average at the grading works added to the. average at the show. That basis, tbe Managers' Association contends, really plays into the hands of the factories which are conveniently situated. They do not object to the factory whose butter obtains tbe most points under that system being awarded a championship, but they protest against' the maker of that butter, judged under such conditions, being ranked as the champion butter maker. They say that managers in out-of-the-way places arc- at a disadvantage, as, for instance, North Aucklamlers who liavo to handle home-separated material. Therefore they advocate a separation of the championship prizes. Mr. Cuddie is to consider the matter, and it is probable, that it will rcoeivo further attention at the Hawora winter show next month.
