SHANNON. Mr. R. A. MTCen'zie is at present on a visit to Tokaanu. Mr. Byron Brown has promised to give an address to the Literary and Debating Society shortly. Fatter Hunt, of Wellington, officiated at tho Catholic Church on Sunday. He will hold mission services throughout the week. The local Debating Society recently issued a challenge to .the Levin T.H.C.A. Society, who have chosen "Lilw.val or Conservative?" as their subject of debate. The local society is likely to take tho Liberal side. Last week a local settler sold his bullocks at .£lO pei' head in the paddock. It is a long time since such a high value has been realised in His district. The local junior footballers defeated Levin "B" at Shannon on Saturday by !i points to 6. Tho seniors were defeated by Hui Mai at Manakau by 8 points to nil. The Shannon team consisted of eleven men only.
