SIB. lE-AUK MJLLS. BEQUESTS MADE TO CHARITIES. The many friends-of Mr. Prank Millar second son of the late Mr. E. W. Mills, .of this city, will regret to hear of his death, which occurred suddenly oil Sunday night, at his residence, No. 42 Devon Street. The late gentleman was widely known, and beloved by many for his kindly actions. He was of a quiet studious nature. His philanthropic and benevolent disposition led him to bequeath the whole of his estate to various charities. The estate is divided between the Salvation Army, Mother Mary Joseph Aubert's Hcaue for Incurables, and the Home for the Aged Needy, after deducting dfilOO for Dr. Barnarao's Homes and ,£2OO for a bed in the hospital. Tka amount of the estate is about .£6OOO.
MR. A, G. MANTHEL. The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Alfred George Manthel, of 217 Ingestre Street, a resident of . Wellington for 41 years. Mr. Manthel was born in Pans in ISiO, and came out to New Zealand when he was 2G years of age. He was for somo years engaged in business as & commission agent, and his services as a French linguist were often requisitioned in tho early days, particularly " when French sailing vessels, called at Wellington to load wool under charter. Mr. Manthel was one of the earliest advocates of the widening of Willis Street, having written letters to the local press on th« subject over 25 years ago. The deceased had been ill for some time past, ani death was not unexpected. He. leave a widow, a son (Mr. Maurice Manthel,. electrician), and' a daughter (Mrs." F. Clarke, of Blenheim).
