Following on the defeat of New Soiith Wales on Saturday by 21 points to 8, the Baino New South Wales loam was to-day defe.itod by New Zealand (minus Roberts and otherwise .nlteral) by 17 points to 11. The homo men registered the opening and the concluding scores. JVTTEDANCES EVEN. The attendance at, the Now Zealand and the Lenguo matches was about 4000 each. (On Saturday 16,000 attended the New Zealand-New South Wales match, and 25,000 the League match.) ' KoberiH stood out of the New Zealand foam, Jfynott captaining it. The final arrangement of tho team was:— Pull-back: O'Leary; three-quarters: Mitchinson, Ryan, Mitchell; five-eighths: Mynott and Fuller;, half-back: Burns; wing-fonvard: M'Kellar; forwards: Bligli, Avery, Patterson, Paton, Francis, Maguire, and Wilson. The New South Wales team remained tho same as on Saturday, viz:— Pull-back: Dwyer; three-quarters: Widmer, Campbell, Dimdas, and Prentice; halves: Hodgens and Wood; forwards: Griffin, Middleton, Clnrken, Prowso, Reynolds, Row, and Geo. Fancy, A Close Contest. Though the visitors succeeded in winning their second match by a fair marKin, the victory took more gaining than the first one, the homo team putting up an excellent, , stubborn, and, at times, brilliant defence, particularly in tho first half, which ended with tho visitors only a single point ahead, the iirst score not, appearing till after the game had been ill progress for !S3 minutes. Tho All Black backs showed some fine nippy play, and of tho forwards, Paton, Wilson, Jl'Kelliir, and Francis were the most profniueut, Wilson's dribbling and tackling being especially good. The absence of Roberts did not tell in favour of , the All Blacks. New Zealand Attacks Repelled. ■ Tho weather was fine, with a stiffish breeze. Tho New Zealundcrs won the toss, and Row kicked off for New South Wales against the wind. After a few minutes' open play, New Zealand was awarded a. free-kick,' which carried them to the Blue (New South AVales) line. Driven back, they came again. ' After samo close' play the visiting backs set out lor tho line, and Mitchinson nearly got over;'Dwyer, tho Blues'. fullback, saved, the ball going into touch. Shortly afterwards Suiibnr was penalised, and U'Loary mndo a fruitless kick at goal. Tho visitors pressed until a bit of good 'work by the Blue forwards drove them back. Home Team Draws First Blood. Play had new been in. operation twenty minutes, and tho All Blacks livened up and carried play within a few yards of tho line, the backs showing good combination. At this point the Blues were peu&lised, uwiug to Widmer illegally tackling Mitchinson. Then . Middlcton set ; the Blue backs going, and some excellent passing resulted in Campbell scoring a try, to which Kow added the extra points. New South Wales, 5; All Blacks,' nil. ■ All Blacks Retaliate. The Blues kept going for a while, then Franois, picking up, whipped tho ball to Paton, to Patterson, to Burns, to Ryan, who scored at tho corner. O'Lmry missed the goal. New South Wales, 5; All Blnckj, 3. Following On tho drop-out, tho All Blacks were at tho homo 'lino again. From somo short passing among the backs, Mitchinson crossed at the corner; Ryan's shot at goal failed. All Blacks, 6; Now South Wales, 5.

Tho All; Blacks gradually worked to the home line. Tho Blues then pressed for a while, until O'Leary relieved. Burns broke away with a fino effort, and nearly reached the Blues' line. Tho All Blacks wore not to be denied, and, forcing their way through, M'Kellar fell over the lino and scored; O'Leary converted. All Blacks, 11; Now South Wales, 5. Two More Tries. . Tins put tho homo team on their mettle, and for a tirao they kept the visitors strongly on-the defensive, but tho visitors gradually worked to the homo end, Avcry heading a fine forward rush. Loose play followed, ending in Ryan, securing n. try; Fuller miss>«l the goal. All Blacks, H; New South Wales, 5. Immediately afterwards Paton, without any real attempt being made to stop him, got across. o'l.eary's shot at goal fa-iled. All Blacks, 17; Now South Wales, 5. The Blues Wake Up. In tho closing stages the Blues livened up again, the backs doing excellent service. Some clever work by O.mpbell ended in darken .scoring an unconverted toy. All Blacks, 17; New South Wales, 8.
