■DATES OF VARIOUS SHOWS. RECEPTION TO MR. E. SHORT MOOTED. (By Telegraph,—Special Correspondent.) Patmerston North, June 14. The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Mauawatu A. and P. Associaiion was held to-day. Mr. C. A. J. Levett, president, was in the cbair. Mr. C. J. Reakes, Government veterinarian, wrote pointing out the possibility of obtaining the best Shorthorn blood in Ireland at auction, the sales being held in April each year. A letter - was received from the Waikato A. and P. Association asking dates of the next spring show, and stating their dates were November 8 and 9. . The Wanganui A. and P. Association wrote that their show would be held on November 16 and 17. It also asked for details of management with regaid to gate-passes, etc. Information to be supplied. .The Dannevirke A. and P. Association wrote stating that the annual dates of their show were February 8 and 9. The Wanganui Education Board asked if in the new schedule in the art section a class might, bo included for .metal work for juniors. The Naval and Military Tournament Committee stated that it was proposed to hold their tournament on December 31 . and January 1. Owing to the death of the late King and there being no holiday on November 9 the use of the grounds was ' asked for 'on ' those days: ' The request was granted; on previous terms. The Wellington Racing Club , stated that in' each case the association had allotted the grant from that club to the thoroughbred classes. That was not the intention 'of the Wellington Committee, and it was asked if it was too late to reconsider the matter. It was recommended by- the Horse Schedule Committee that-«£ls of the ,£25 received be divided in equal portions between the classes for horses most suitable for hunters and troop horses; . Thirty new members were elected. A deputation from the newly-formed Trotting Club, comprising Messrs. H. Gillies, H. J. Woodfield, P. O'Connor, and W. Jewell waited on the committer to apply for the use of the show grounds for- trotting'meetings. 'After the retirement of the deputation, a considerable amount of discussion took' place as to the' terms on which tho grounds should bp let, the Trotting , Qlub. having offered jen .per* cent, on its gate and. stand-tak-. mgs. ' Eventually' the . matter was referred to the Ground and Finance Committees to report upon. A committee comprising , Mesps, Levett, Jacob, Balsillie, MUae, Gillies, Conway, M'Crea,. and Jounneaux, with power to add to their number, was set up to act in conjunction with the Feeding A and P. Association, with a view to tendering a fitting,reception to Mr. E. Short on. his return to Dominion from the Argentine. Eulogistic . reference was made to the.grcaf service Mr. Short • had rendered the Dominion, and especially Romney breeders by his pluck and enterprise in taking shep to compete at the great Argentine show. It was also decided to send a letter of congratulation to him through Mrs. - Short, who leaves on. Thursday next to meet Mr. Short in London.
